Thirty, Flirty and Fendi

Writer: Emma CallaghanEmma Callaghan

I spend a lot of time researching the charities that I donate my cakes to. This time was a little different, as I've been doing "research" for my entire life.

Sure, this cake wasn't for charity, but it meant just as much to me - My sister turned 30 on December 20th.

For as long as I can remember, Kelly and I have been the best of friends - We were never your typical argumentative siblings. A few years back, Kelly and I were strolling through the 10+ floors of Saks in New York and it seemed that everything she pointed out was colorful and covered in glitter. That very shopping trip was my inspiration for this cake... specifically, a pair of rainbow crystal Louboutins.

My sister's taste in clothing hasn't changed much since she was 5. Sure, now she can properly pronounce the names of runway designers and she spaces out her loud outfits with more traditional all black NYC attire, but her love of color and glitter has been steadfast and I was thrilled to embrace it.

This cake wasn't your traditional 30th birthday cake. It most definitely looks like it belongs at a child's party, but that was sort of the point. While I had a blast dreaming of and creating this colorful masterpiece, I'm looking forward to making a second cake for Kelly's official party in January..... this time, a little more appropriate for the straight A MBA student that my sister is.

Happy birthday to my insanely intelligent, courageous and gorgeous sister. I love you more than I can even begin to articulate!

NYC, HERE I COME!

Baked with infinite love,

Emma
